Saturday, Dec. 12, Corsair Robotics 2612 attended its second holiday parade of the season, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect: 50 degrees and no rain!
The parade was Clarkston’s Holiday Lights Parade, and it was hosted by FRC Team RUSH 27 of Clarkston High School. It was a tremendous honor for Corsairs 2612 to attend the parade and show off our awesome robots. This year’s theme was “Robots Invade the Holiday Parade.”
Our float had quite a few changes from Pontiac’s Holiday Extravaganza on Dec. 5: a bigger Christmas tree decked out in blue and white LED lights and covered in tinsel that may or may not have had to be reapplied after the trip there, our bright “2612” LED sign attached to the front of the truck pulling the trailer, more wrapped presents on the float, and our own elf played by Team Captain Andrew Moy, senior. While we weren't operating the FRC robot from the 2015 season, it was a display piece and glowed brightly for the crowds. Our 2015 OCCRA robot had another purpose. Instead scoring goals, the robot instead put a shining star on top of our tree. Team member Keegan Budgery, junior, rode his unicycle again, but the hills in Clarkston proved to be challenging.
One of the best parts of our parade was the fact that we were joined by the FLL Team 21436, Go Big, Go Brick, which we mentored during the 2015 season. FLL team members marched in the parade with us and even helped out by handing out candy. It was both a joy and an honor to have them by our lighted float.
Other floats in the parade included a Rock’Em Sock’Em Robots float, Star Wars float with large AT-AT moving display, and Team RUSH 27’s robot float with Santa. Other floats had lots of lights and music. It was exciting to see all of the different theme ideas in the parade.
Even though attending this parade was a bit unexpected, we worked hard to get the float ready, and it was still a ton of fun.
And our holiday festivities aren't done yet! We're selling cookies and hot cocoa on Dec. 18 and 19 from 7-9 pm at the light show located at 2651 Cherokee Hills Circle, Waterford, MI 48328. Proceeds benefit the Michigan Humane Society.
Corsairs 2612 eagerly awaits both FRC season and any other community events coming up in the future.
