As some of you may know, the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) season is upon us. The game is set, and Team 2612 is hard at work designing and building a great robot this season. But FIRST is so much more than a competition with robots. It's a learning experience where students of all ages grow and develop new skills both in school and out of school.
As cool as actually competing is, you can even receive scholarships for simply being a part of an FRC team. Applying for FIRST scholarships is easy, and lots of universities offer them, both in and out of Michigan. As simple as the application process is, a whole bunch of scholarships go unclaimed each year. It's a shame how so many FIRST students miss out on getting money for college, just because they don’t apply.

One of the best things about FRC scholarships is that you don't even have to be majoring in engineering, computer science, or technology to apply. About 60% of available scholarships are for specific STEM majors, but 40% are for any major you choose.
Tons of colleges — even companies — offer loads of money for participating in FIRST. There are about 200 scholarship providers and $25 million in available scholarships. Here are two in Michigan that have upcoming deadlines:
Michigan Technological University: $5,000-$14,000 per year, renewable
18 scholarships available (8 to Michigan residents)
Deadline: March 1, 2016
Eastern Michigan University: $1,000 non-renewable
10 scholarships available
Deadline: May 16, 2016
There are plenty more university scholarships and many out of state. It all depends on what your goals are.

Week 2 of the FIRST STRONGHOLD build season was very productive:
Only 28 more days to build, program, test, and practice driving our robot. I think we're going to need some Mtn Dew!
