March, 5th Square One had its’ 6th annually event. It looked real interesting for my first time judging the event. The first task for the robots to do was to go through a PVC tunnel, and pick up and pick up little pieces of PVC tees from a bin and distribute them to a different bin then return back through the tunnel.
For the second task teams had to successfully retrieve the rings from the pool floor and hang them on the safety hooks, then raise the flag.
The third task required the team’s robot to survey bins of sea lamprey burrows, and determine the population density to the nearest cm.
There was even an optional challenge where teams competed in a drag race with robots built just for speed.
What square one is doing for these high schoolers and especially the younger kids that want to hopefully pursue a career in engineering is spectacular.
