It was the OCCRA Championship on Saturday, Nov. 21, and it was the loudest, most-anticipated event yet.
Our robot was decked out with more LED lights running down the sides. Our spirit team is getting louder and louder every competition we go to. I liked the enthusiasm from the parents in the stands. It seems like we have a different chant for every competition we went to.
We were the first match of final qualifying matches, and due to field problems that prevented communication to our bot, the match was played again. Though we didn't do as well as we would have liked, but we got our groove back and scored ferociously and played defensive aggressively in the second qualifying match.

Huge shout out to our driver, Gabe Jimenez, junior; operator, Erica Wolfe, junior; human player, Jackson Grey, freshman; and coach, Brendan Gallagher, sophomore. You guys did amazing job and kept fighting until the end.
After qualifying, the teams were given seedings for how well they competed over the past five weeks. We didn’t make it to the top 10 seeds, but we were lucky enough to get picked by Team 5053 from Waterford’s Our Lady of the Lakes, the tenth seeded team, to be a part of our alliance.
We only won one match in the eliminations, but we learned a lot this season. Even though our OCCRA season is over, we still have a whole new chapter ahead of us. I’m looking forward to FRC and future competitions.
There were awards handed out at the end of the competition. Congratulations to all of these teams:
Team 4384 (Bloomfield Hills International Academy East) received the Top Seed Award.
Teams 308 (Walled Lake Western High School), 245 (Rochester Adams High School), 803 (Walled Lake Central High School), and 51 (Pontiac High School) all made it to the semifinals and won awards for their achievements.
Teams 1 (Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast) and 4384 (Bloomfield Hills International Academy East) were finalists and received awards for their achievements.
Teams 33 (Notre Dame Prep) and 123 (Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest) comprised the winning OCCRA Champions alliance and received awards for their achievements.
Foundation Award finalists are Team 1 (Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast), Team 33, Team 51, Team 245, and Team 4384. The Foundation Award will be presented and the OCCRA MVP team will be announced at the OCCRA awards banquet on Dec. 2. We're hoping to add another award to this year's OCCRA collection.
Let's go, Corsairs!
